Resolution regarding racism in the Conejo Valley:

    Whereas, the Democratic Club of the Conejo Valley acknowledges the Equality of Rights and Opportunity plank of the California Democratic Party’s 2020 Platform to support “a just and inclusive society by speaking out with a public and unified voice against all forms of racism, discrimination, harassment, hatred, and violence directed at racial and ethnic minorities”;

    Whereas, continued nationwide police violence results in a disproportionate use of force by police against Black and Brown Americans which perpetuates a systemic policing problem that must be addressed;

    Whereas, the xenophobic and inaccurate label of COVID-19 as the “China Virus” has led to a dramatic and unacceptable increase in anti-Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) attacks across the nation resulting in over 2,800 attacks since March 2020 reported by the Stop AAPI Hate Reporting Center;

    Whereas, California and the United States have a documented history of discrimination and racism against people of color that continues to be a part of the American culture and systems today, affecting millions of Americans;

    Therefore, be it resolved that the Democratic Club of the Conejo Valley denounces any racist and discriminatory actions that bring fear to community members, and will work to address the actions, systems and institutional structures that have facilitated inequities that exist today;

    Be it further resolved that the Democratic Club of the Conejo Valley is committed to being a voice for racial justice in this community, which includes but is not restricted to the following actions:

    1. The Club openly denounces racism and holds other local organizations to doing the same.

    2. The Club will consistently provide opportunities for education and awareness on these issues for club members and the greater community.

    3. The Club will regularly amplify the voices and concerns of Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC), support key legislation and public policies, partner with other organizations working in these areas, and actively work to get more BIPOC into elected office and other leadership roles.

    4. The club urges local leaders (listed below) to unite and publicly denounce all forms of racial discrimination within their organizations, while working to intentionally create opportunities for awareness about racism and discrimination, prioritize inclusion and equity in all official policies and procedures, and create community-wide awareness campaigns with feedback from local stakeholders to promote inclusion and equity.
